About Me

Hi, my name is Prashant. I live in Pittsburgh with my wife Heather and our twin sons. I am now a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon. Previously, I lived in New York where I worked at Morgan Stanley developing electronic trading systems. I went to Berkeley for my undergrad and to Wharton for my MBA.

I post pictures at SmugMug and also occasionally share interesting blog items via Google Reader. You can also find me on LinkedIn and Facebook and search for me online with something like this query.

Funny Stuff

My favorite comic strip:  Calvin & Hobbes

My favorite cartoon show:  Pinky & the Brain

If you haven't yet discovered the quirky world of webcomics, I recommend xkcd, QC and PhD.

Doing Good

The following are some non-profit organizations that Heather and I relate to.  (By the way, if you don't know about Charity Navigator, check it out.  It's a fantastic tool to find causes and organizations that appeal to your interests.)

Animals

Save The Tiger Fund:  William Blake's short but awe-inspiring Tyger is one of my favorite poems.

Elephant Sanctuary:  Tennessee is where the circus elephant Mighty Mary was executed in 1916.

Humane Society:  Heather worked at an animal shelter every summer until she went to college.

Education

Donors Choose:  An innovative organization that lets teachers raise money for classroom needs.

PECOS Trust:  A primary school for underprivileged children started by a good friend's dad.

Asha for Education:  A volunteer network that strives for basic education opportunities in India.

Environment

Clean Water Fund:  I got jaundice as a kid because I drank water that wasn't clean enough.

Flying Elephants Foundation:  It supports artists/scientists who work to benefit the environment.

Healthcare

American Diabetes Association:  My grandmother fought diabetes for much of her life.

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute:  My brother-in-law studies blindness in Africa as a researcher here.

American Cancer Society:  Did you know that cancer causes 13% of all deaths in the US?
